Chief Mate (FG) – Phase I Competency Course is a 3-month DG shipping-approved course, the main objectives are to prepare a candidate to appear for the examinations of Chief Mate Phase-I of the Certificate of Competency as Chief Mate of a Foreign going Ship.
This course covers part of the education and training required under Regulation II/2 and aims to meet the standards of competence specified in Section A-II/2 of the STCW 95. Appendix M-II/2A of META Manual Vol. II and IMO Model course 7.01 should be used to prepare material for this course.

The Chief Mate (FG) – Phase I Competency course equips seafarers with the essential knowledge and skills to pass the Chief Mate (FG) – Phase I CoC exams easily. The training covers:
- Navigation At the Operational Level
- Terrestrial and Celestial Navigation
- Meteorology
- Cargo Handling & Stowage At The Operational Level.
- Controlling The Operation Of The Ship & Caring For Persons On Board At The Operational Level

- Fire safety and fire fighting operations
- Basic knowledge of emergency procedures including emergency shutdown
- Basic knowledge of the effects of pollution on human and marine life
- Basic knowledge of shipboard procedures to prevent pollution
- Basic knowledge of measures to be taken in the event of spillage.
